Capability-Relevant Persistence State

Capability-relevant persistence state is the retained state that causally supports reconstruction of a pre-specified capability after interruption.

The concept is property-relative.

For a chosen property, interruption condition, and reconstruction protocol, selective removal, randomization, or replacement can test which retained states are causally relevant to later recovery of that capability.

The relevant state may be:

  • distributed;
  • redundant;
  • represented by several alternative sufficient sets.

Capability-relevant persistence state should not be confused with Organizational Persistence or Organizational Continuity. A state can help reconstruct one capability without being sufficient to preserve the higher-order organization; conversely, an organization can persist while a particular capability is lost.

A copied state can support equivalent capability without continuing the earlier lineage.
